Pitching

Welcome to the pitch on pitching.

There's a plethora of books, DVD's and articles on how to pitch. Some will advocate that their way is the only correct way to learn or only correct way to pitch.  However most will agree that it's about getting the fundamentals right first and then honing or developing your skill and style.

If you, as either a player or a parent of a player, want to develop pitching skills, first of all speak to your coach.  Every team needs pitchers, but not every player is destined to become a pitcher.  As with all sports, there are some who are "just naturals" and others of us who have to work very hard just to pass muster.

The club, through its Club Coaches will run Pitching Clinics during the season.  These will generally be communicated via your manager or coach as well as being marked in the Diary.

Types of Pitching

At all levels of baseball you will see players pitching differently and in the most part, pitching well.  There are a number of "styles" of pitching and ball grips:

bulletcurve
bulletfour seam
bulletforkball
bulletknuckleball
bulletoverhand curve
bulletscrewball
bulletsinkers
bulletslider
bullettwo seam
bulletthree seam
bulletOverarm
bulletsidearm
bulletsubmarine

 and the list goes on.

Pitch Scoring

While the main scorebook records all plays including pitches, a number of specialised sheets are available that just focus on pitching.

A pitch count sheet may be simple or very complex, depending on the information you wish to record and the use you wish to make of the data collected.

Have a look at the various types of Pitching Sheets on our Scoring Page.

Here are some links to various Pitching Drills etc:
